The Svalbard trip is being run by a company called Aqua-Firma, a UK leader in wilderness and wildlife travel. I will be there to help all aboard with their photography.
Svalbard is a truly wild and spectacular destination, and with the prospect of global warming affecting the extent of sea ice cover in the Arctic, time may be running out for the chance to witness for oneself Spitsbergen in its full polar glory; not to mention the Polar Bear and whole host of other incredible wildlife.
Also spectacular will be the travelling accommodation – a 100 year old schooner! You must see the pictures of this boat and it’s interior on Aqua-Firma’s website (www.aqua-firma.co.uk -their logo is attached in this email for your use). It is fitting that this is the 100th year celebration of Scott’s fateful trip to the other Pole, the Antarctic, and we have a ship with all the same charms as the Discovery.
If you don’t already know of David J Slater, I am a professional multi-award winning nature photographer in the UK. I am currently the winner of the NPPA’s Best of Nature Photojournalism Award, a winner in MSNBC’s Best Photo of 2008 Award, the overall runner-up in the British Wildlife Photography Awards (BWPA) 2009, and a past runner-up in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards. I have also been running one-to-one wildlife photography workshops since 2003, something else your members may be interested in (www.djsphotography.co.uk).
Please visit my website (address below) and my Svalbard blog, as well as the website of the host of this tour Aqua-Firma. Bookings should be made through Aqua Firma’s website or telephone.
Cost of the trip is currently reduced by 10% to £2,990 (GBP) plus airfare. This is to fill the last couple of spaces before we set sail on the 12th August, returning on the 27th August 2010.
In warmth,
